Infrastructure and Local Insights
Maroondah continues to thrive as the retail, commercial, employment and leisure hub of the outer east, further boosting property market performance and liveability.
Ringwood’s Metropolitan Activity Centre, positioned as the social and economic epicentre of the outer east, will further transform the town centre into a major urban destination. When complete, it will operate as the gateway to Yarra Valley tourism, and an important regional goods and services hub and strategic transport node.
The booming Eastland shopping centre precinct has been a focus of huge investment in recent years, with a $700 million redevelopment cementing its reputation as an urban shopping, entertainment and leisure destination. A further $200 million will see the 11-level Eastco commercial tower completed by 2022, delivering 14,000sqm of office space for 1,000 government workers.
In another major boost to business and tourism, Accor’s 103-room Sebel Hotel opened earlier this year, while construction on the Marriott Group’s 19-storey, 200-room hotel and mixed-use development in the East End complex is earmarked for completion in 2024.
Maroondah’s vibrant shopping villages will benefit from a $60 million government investment creating multi-level carparks in Ringwood, Croydon, Heathmont and Heatherdale. This will ease congestion in residential streets and provide connectivity to retail and public transport hubs.

Major transport projects will soon transform the way people live and commute in Maroondah, reducing congestion and enhancing connectivity across the region.
The level crossing at Maroondah Highway is being removed and a new elevated station built to ease congestion for more than 29,000 vehicles that use it daily. Lilydale Station and bus interchange will be relocated to better integrate with the town centre. When complete in 2022, the project will lay the groundwork for further line upgrades, including the duplication of sections of the Lilydale line and a potential new station between Mooroolbark and Lilydale.
Maroondah’s enduring appeal to families will be intensified by a raft of community facility upgrades. Sporting centres are undergoing significant improvements, including the recent Springfield sporting pavilion redevelopment, a $3.5 million investment in Cheong Park sports field, a $3.25 million new pavilion at Proclamation Park, and a $3.5 million redevelopment of RO Spencer pavilion in Ringwood due for completion later this year.
Schools in the Maroondah area continue to draw buyers and strong competition, with homes in sought-after government zones attracting premiums. Ringwood Secondary College, Melba College in Croydon and Norwood Secondary College have all undertaken recent major redevelopments, adding to the strong educational choices available to the next generation within Maroondah.
This strong infrastructure and development investment continues to drive fresh interest and demand in Maroondah, ensuring the local property market is perfectly placed for continued growth.
